Helping Ladies Through Bible Study

by Mrs. Amy Levesque,
Wife of Pastor Doug Levesque of Immanuel Baptist Church, Corunna MI

Titus 2:1-5
“But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children. To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.”

Introduction:
1. Ladies have specific needs that by God’s grace a women versed in Scripture and apt to teach can help meet.
2. There is a systematic way to go about planning, preparing, promoting and presenting a ladies Bible study.
3. While you will always have multiple categories of ladies (i.e. young, old, single, married, widowed, etc) and can have separate studies for them, ladies also enjoy all meeting together.

Proposition:
When preparing a ladies Bible study, it is important to minister to their hearts (emotions), their heads (minds) and their hands (projects).

Outline:
I. Ministering to a Woman’s Head
A. Study a specific book or passage of the Bible.
B. Have women look up verses, answer questions, or fill-in blanks.
C. Example:  James, Proverbs

II. Ministering to a Woman’s Heart
A. Study different characters in the Bible and how they handled different situations.
B. Study different relationships that women have with those around them. (Spouse, children, brothers, sisters in Christ, etc.)
C. Have women write down how they feel about their relationships, how they want to improve them, what they think are the strengths and weaknesses of th women in the Bible and what they can personnally learn from them.
D. Example: Women in the Bible, Relationships

III. Ministering to a Woman’s Hands
A. Action steps:  Give them steps to follow, projects to work on, and ministries to fill.
B. Accountablity:  Help them connect with a godly prayer partner and someone to hold them accountable for decisions made.
C. Accolades:  ENCOURAGE them! Give incentives for ladies to come to Bible study and complete their lessons. Possibly plan an event or activity for those who participate.

Conclusion:
1.  We exclusively use the King James Version of the Bible. Using multiple versions of the Bible during a Bible study will cause confusion. It is far better to have everyone on the same page.
2. Realize that women are at all levels of Christian maturity. Have your study general enough for the baby Christian, but have more available for those that want to dig a little deeper. ( Word studies, “for further studies”)
