Home School – Is it for my family?

Posted By on June 2, 2011

I am a very big fan of Christian education. I even added home school material to my bookstore site to help those that are looking for great material. I really want to encourage you to consider Christian education.

Did you know that Burner Books offers material for home schoolers? I choose Landmark Freedom Baptist Curriculum for high quality educational material that has a Biblical focus. You will find Pre-school to High School curriculum with Bible, Math, History & Geography, Literature, Science, English. Electives include Home Economics, Spanish, Computer, Penmanship, Personal Development (for ladies),  Music, and Shop.

Landmark’s Freedom Baptist Curriculum is the only full-line (K through 12) curriculum owned and operated by a local independent Baptist church. This is your assurance that the curriculum is and will remain doctrinally sound. Suitable for both church school and homeschool application, LFBC is designed to be self-instructional, but is flexible enough to be used in traditional settings.

The curriculum is

  • Self-Instructional
  • Academically Challenging
  • Biblically Sound
  • Basics Oriented

There is a lot of discussion around home schooling. Can I do it? Will my children really benefit? Can we afford to only have one spouse working? What about my child missing social aspects of being around other kids? Which type or method should we do?

First, you and your spouse have to decide how important this is to your children and their future. They will be learning about the Bible and creation and many other things that are not taught in public school. You will not be subjecting them to the many worldly things that are happening in the public school setting. Many stand up daily to saluate our flag for our nation. They are able to pray daily at school. Yes, this is very important for the future of your children.

The next step is coming up with a plan on how are you going to do this. Pray about it. This will change your finances. There has to be things that you are willing to give up in order to make this happen. If you take your child to a homeschool network or private Christian school you have to consider rides there and back. As a parent, you will have to be more involved than every before with school work. You will need to know what they are learning and how fast they are progressing. One child may need to be challenged more and another may need more of your attention. In choosing a home school network; most if not all require parent involvement. This is a good thing. You will grow closer and understand your child like never before.

Social aspects of home schooling can be handled. There are groups designed to get home schoolers together to help bridge the gap. If not one in your area, then start one! I have seen groups for sports and academics to get children that are strictly at home with a parent to see and socialize with other students. This is not as big an issue with churches or groups that start home school networks where they have a larger number of children.

There are different ways people are homeschooling. There are groups of homeschoolers where parents communicate with each other.  The children are for the most part completely trained by mom or dad at home. There are also extensions of churches and organizations that offer a home school network to children. This gives children the missing social aspect so many talk of. Yet, keeps them in a home school atmosphere to learn not only required disciples, but also teaching about the Bible.

Whichever form of home schooling you decide to partake in make sure you and your spouse pray about it and plan ahead.

What benefits have you experienced with Christian education?

Can you tell me what has helped your family in making the “big decision”?
